California Trip Day 5 Recap!

5 Aug

So today is my last afternoon with Dave in California (insert sad face). I’ve had such a great trip and have enjoyed every second with Dave. Leaving today will be extremely hard because I won’t see Dave until Thanksgiving. Although leaving is tough, I know that we both have new chapters we need to start: Dave with his new job and me with graduate school. Thankfully Dave will be moving back to the Midwest in 6 months and we will only be a three hour car ride away.

Enough of the sappy stuff. Let’s talk about yesterday shall we? Yesterday was my first Saturday long run for 1/2 marathon training. I completed four miles at a 10:00 min/mile pace. One thing I need to keep in mind with running in the morning is not to drink too much coffee prior for 2 reasons : 1. I feel dehydrated and 2. My heart feels like it is pumping out of my chest.

Afternoon Activities!

After working out, we got ready to hit the beach! We opted to go to Manhattan Beach, which took us about 40 minutes with traffic to get to. The temperature was about 75 degrees so it felt a bit chilly by the beach, but once we laid out our towels the sun felt great!

Manhattan Beach

I loved the beach. If I lived in California, I would definitely choose beach side. The atmosphere was so relaxed and easy going (my kind of style!).

After the beach, we drove down the coast for some site seeing. With windows down and music blaring we enjoyed the gorgeous view of the coast.

After exploring all afternoon, we were ravenous. With the help of Siri, we found out that Veggie Grill was only 2 miles away from us. Since we loved it the first time, we couldn’t wait to get back and try new dishes! This time, I ordered the portobello burger with a side of steamed kale with a sesame dressing. YUM

Get in my BELLY

Dave ordered the BBQ Chllin Wings and the Carne Asada sandwich. I’ve gotta say…their wings are so delicious! I’m salivating just thinking about them. Although we loved our meals, my favorite is still the All Hail Kale Salad. That salad will forever be in my mind 🙂

Well, I only have a few more hours left here in California, so I’m off to spend the last few moments with Davie. I hope you all had a great weekend!

Anjali

California Trip Day 2 Recap!

2 Aug

Hey Friends!

Yesterday, Dave and I had a great day in L.A. We spent the day doing ultimate touristy activities such as taking a bus tour through Hollywood and driving past a movie premier. It was great to see the iconic sites of Hollywood and learn more about the history of the town. Let me begin this post from the very beginning:

Workout

Dave and I decided to check out his new apartment complex’s fitness center. For me, it was Day 2 of 1/2 Marathon Training so I had 3 miles to complete. Ideally, I would have liked to run outside, but we both aren’t familiar with the area so we chose to do an indoor workout. I made sure to switch up the incline every couple of minutes of the treadmill and adjust my speed accordingly. I finished my 3 miles in 29 minutes and felt great and sweaty!

Touristy Activities

Like I mentioned before, Dave and I went on a bus tour of Hollywood. One of my favorite parts was driving down Rodeo Drive and drooling over all the stores that I will never be able to afford. The best part of the day occurred when we got off the bus to explore the L.A. Farmer’s Market. It was lined with all sorts of booths offering ethnic cuisine, fresh fruits, fresh veggies, and a few bars! Dave and I quickly made our way to the bar for some afternoon refreshments! We split a pitcher of Fat Tire Beer (hey..I’m on vacation!) and watched the Olympics.

Chow  Time

After getting a slight beer buzz, our stomach’s were ready for some food! Earlier, I had researched the area and found that Veggie Grill  was nearby. Veggie Grill is a vegan restaurant that specializes in sandwiches and burgers. I wanted to visit Veggie Grill because I had heard such rave reviews from the girls at Tone it Up. I wasn’t sure if Dave would like it because he loves meat and I didn’t know if foods like tempeh or chick’n would freak him out. Now, I am not a vegan, let alone a vegetarian. However, a vegan lifestyle fascinates me and I’m becoming more interested in plant based foods.

I ordered the “All Hail Kale Salad” and Dave ordered the Buffalo Chick’n wings. Guys…both of these dishes were so GOOD. My salad consisted of marinated kale and red cabbage, corn salsa, agave-roasted walnuts, and ginger-papaya vinaigrette. The presentation was flawless.

Beautiful and Delicious

This salad might be the best salad I have ever had. I’m not kidding. Before I could snap a picture of Dave’s entree, it was mostly devoured. By the looks of this picture you can tell Dave truly enjoyed it.

Devoured

Dave could not stop raving about Veggie Grill. He loved it so much he wants to go back before I leave on Sunday! There are so many items on the menu that we want to try. Unfortunately, Veggie Grill is only located on the West Coast for now, but I sure hope they expand to the Midwest soon! Veggie Grill offers a wide variety of plant based foods that are inviting to people of all diets whether they be vegan, vegetarian, or meat-eaters. The price was very affordable and the service was great! We can’t wait to return again 🙂

Well I’m off to enjoy my third day in California! We have a lot on our plate today: workout, Warner Brother’s Studio Tour, and going to see Tim Allen and the Laugh Factory tonight!

Have a great Thursday everyone!

Anjali
