Workout Quickie

11 Sep

Today’s post is going to be super quick, because I need to study for a neuro quiz. In between hitting the books, I decided I needed a quick workout break. Today was my rest day from half training, but I thought a quick toning workout wouldn’t hurt 🙂

My requirements for tonight’s workout were: quick, effective, and fun. Luckily, I know two awesome trainers that always know how to meet my workout requirements! These trainers are Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up! I know I reference them weekly, but I just can’t help it..they’ve influenced my healthy living habits and workout routines drastically over the past two years!

Anyways, tonight’s workout consisted of 2 videos: The Summer Arms Workout and the Booty, Lower Abs and Love Handles Workout. Combined, the workouts took me about 16 minutes to complete. I now feel re-energized and ready to focus my attention back to studying!

Let’s end this post on a happy note! Thus enter tonight’s dinner:

You’re never too old for Ketchup smiles

Tonight’s dinner was simple: Turkey burger with sauteed asparagus and mushrooms. It only took 15 minutes to make. Simple, delicious, and smiley 🙂

Have a great night everyone!

Beach Week Kick Off

28 Aug

Hi Friends!!

Did you know that this week is ..BEACH Week?!

The girls at Tone It Up are hosting Beach Week, which is a full week geared toward keeping the summer heat alive with workout challenges, clean eating, support from the girls and the community, and giveaways! I am trying to complete this challenge, so if you are interested in joining, follow me @Anjgoesfit on Twitter for support!

In recognition of Beach of Week, I completed a bunch of workouts today! I started the day off with a 3 mile run. I was very surprised at my pace! According to Map My Run, I ran at an average of a 9:50 min/mile pace. Perhaps my training is paying off! In the morning, I also completed Tone It Up’s Sea Shell Workout before heading out the door to complete some last minute school preparation!

When I came back from shopping, I was ravenous! Since I just went on a grocery haul earlier in the day, I fixed myself a huge salad of spinach, dried cranberries, feta, sliced almonds, and quinoa.

I topped off the salad with a squeeze of fresh lemon and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. This salad hit the spot! The addition of quinoa served as a source of protein which kept me full and satisfied for a few hours.

Dinner

In following along with the Beach Week “rules” I made tonight’s dinner “Lean, Clean and Green.” The girls at Tone it Up use this term a lot to describe meals that are made with lean protein, clean ingredients, and green veggies. I decided to look for inspiration in the cookbook binder my mom gave to me before I left for school. I ended up using the Orange Baked Salmon recipe which was amazing!! The recipe called for 4 simple ingredients, and was super easy to make. I paired my salmon with a stack of  sautéed asparagus. Yummy 🙂

Plateful of Lean, Clean, and Green!

You can find this recipe by googling “Orange Baked Salmon Cleveland Clinic” and click on the first link.

Well, it’s time to relax and enjoy my final night of summer vacation! Tomorrow, graduate school begins, marking my first step in pursuing my career as a speech-language pathologist! Wish me luck!

Feeling Blessed!

17 Jul

Hey there lovelies!

First off, I just want to say WOW! I woke up in the middle of the night to a million twitter updates and text messages from my friends saying “Check Instagram!!” Confused as to what the hype was about, I immediately checked Instagram and saw that Karena and Katrina from Tone It Up featured me on their instagram and facebook pages!

This is what I woke up to!

They compiled some of my tweets and pictures from the last week, shared it with the community, and provided the link to my blog! I couldn’t believe it! Thanks to their feature, I woke up to over 100 new twitter followers and 900 views on my first blog post! Karena and Katrina have been my main motivators in my fitness journey and to have their support means the world to me. Truly, from the bottom of my heart thank you so much K & K!

Drowsy Morning

Due to my excitement last night, I found it hard to sleep! I woke up at 7:15 this morning for a doctor’s appointment at the Cleveland Clinic, and since I wasn’t allowed to eat or drink anything due to getting labs drawn, I opted to move my workout until later. Not eating or drinking anything in the morning was rough for me! Skipping my morning cup o’ joe really left me feeling drowsy and by the time my appointment was over I was ravenous!

My mom, who is a nurse at the Clinic, met me for breakfast at the Clinic’s cafeteria. I was really interested to see what kind of selections the cafeteria had to offer since the Cleveland Clinic is a strong advocate of healthy living. Unfortunately, we arrived just as they were transitioning from breakfast to lunch so many of the options were closed. The only stands open were McDonalds & Subway so I opted for the Subway. I ordered an egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and paired it with a banana from home and a Starbucks coffee. Hopefully when I return for another doctor’s appointment I can gather a better selection from the Clinic’s cafeteria!

After leaving the cafeteria, my mom wanted to show me the “Wellness Store” at the Cleveland Clinic. I gladly followed her because I love going into wellness stores! I was pleasantly surprised at the selection that the store carried. It was stocked up on healthy cook books, exercise equipment, and health foods such as chia seeds, Kombucha, and protein powders. I was especially in awe at their selection of Kombucha!

Kombucha!

Kombucha is a fermented tea, and can help aid in digestion. (I personally believe it helps with hangovers too!). I didn’t end up buying one because I was still sipping on my coffee, but I am craving one! Even though I have been going to the Clinic my entire life, I am really starting to appreciate their effort to advocate not only health but also wellness.

Workout

My workout today was simple yet effective. I popped in the Tone It Up Beach Babe DVD and completed the “Surfer Girl” workout. It’s a great workout which leaves you feeling the burn long after you do it! I love that feeling!

*For those who were asking on yesterday’s post: I use the app “Map my Run” when I run outdoors. It does a great job tracking my route, distance, pace, and calories. It also talks to me every mile to tell me how I’m doing. Pretty cool..huh?*

Afternoon

My boyfriend, Dave (you will hear me talking about him a LOT!) is here in town for a few days! He lives two hours away from me, so whenever I do get to see him I try to make it count! This is our last time to hang out before he moves to California for six months for his job! Fortunately, I will be visiting him soon after he moves, but of course I will miss him a lot. With that being said, it is time to spend some quality time with this special guy! Tomorrow we will be off to Cedar Point ( one of my favorite places on earth). Hope you all had a great Tuesday!
