Long Run Re-Cap!

9 Sep

Happy Sunday everyone!

Once again, I let my blog go vacant, but I am still trying to get my graduate schedule down. I did, however, wanted to write a post today recapping my long run this week for 1/2 marathon training. Typically, my long runs take place on Saturday mornings with my running group, but when I woke up at 6 a.m. yesterday, it was pouring down rain. Since I knew there was a makeup run on Sunday, I decided to skip the run and sleep a few more hours. Before I went back to bed, I tweeted in my sleepy state. This is what it read:

Yikes. I did not mean to say terrestrial! I meant to say that there was a torrential down pour. Maybe I shouldn’t tweet at 6 a.m.

This morning, I woke up and headed out to meet the running group. When I arrived, there was only one other runner. We both looked at each other with puzzled looks. We were both so confused as to why we were the only ones there! After waiting ten minutes, my new buddy checked his e-mail on his phone and discovered that we went to the wrong meet=up spot! Since I wasn’t familiar with the area we were in, I drove back home  and ran by myself. To be honest, I wasn’t thrilled to do this long run alone. I was looking forward to running with a group so that I could have extra motivation and support. When I got back home, I made myself immediately head out because I knew if I waited, I wouldn’t get it done.

My original goal was to run 8.5 miles, but to my surprise I felt compelled to run 9! Let’s break down the run shall we?

Mile 1: I feel pretty strong. Just focus on your stride and breathing!

Miles 2-3: Still feeling good…and wow this 70 degree weather is just fantastic!

Mile 3-4: Uh oh–my right knee is starting to hurt again. Keep running it’ll be fine.

Mile 4-5: Okay my knee feels better, keep on keeping on!

Mile 5.5- Water & GU break. Hmm this berry GU is not half bad. Now that I’m refueled..it’s time to get back to it!

Mile 5.5-7: I feel surprisingly good! I feel like I can add another half mile to my run to make it to 9! Challenge accepted.

Mile 7-9: Don’t you dare give up and walk! You are so close to reaching your goal, just keep running!!

FINISH: WOO! I did it!!

Nine miles is my longest distance that I have ever completed. I’m so happy that my training has allowed me to reach this distance. Completing these weekly long runs always gives me reassurance that I can push myself to reach new goals.

I hope you all are having a fantastic weekend & that you’re challenging yourself to reach new goals!
